HIV Management

Living with HIV or having a child with HIV can be a difficult and emotional experience, but you don't have to face it alone. Dr Liane offers comprehensive HIV care to help you and your little one manage your condition. As a paediatric GP, she understands the unique challenges that come with managing HIV and strive to provide compassionate care.

What is HIV?

Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) is a chronic disease that attacks the body's immune system and can lead to acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS). By weakening the immune system, HIV makes it more difficult for the body to fight infections and diseases.

How is HIV spread?

Despite frequent education, there are still plenty of misconceptions about how HIV is spread. The virus can only be spread by exchanging bodily fluids, such as blood, breast milk, semen, and vaginal fluids. For example, HIV can be transmitted from mother to child during pregnancy, childbirth and breastfeeding, as well as through unprotected sexual contact and sharing of needles.

What happens at my appointment?

As an experienced GP, Dr Liane provides comprehensive HIV management services designed to help you and your child manage your condition and improve your health. This can include:

  • HIV testing and diagnosis
  • Medication management and monitoring
  • Regular check-ups and screenings
  • Support and counselling for you and your family
  • Referrals to specialists and community resources

How is HIV treated?

HIV is treated with antiretroviral therapy (ART), a combination of medications that work together to reduce the amount of the virus in the blood and slow the progression of the disease. ART can also help prevent the spread of the virus to others.

Whether you're newly diagnosed or have been living with HIV for years, Dr Liane is here to help you and your child navigate the complex world of HIV management and achieve optimal health.
